New professional development course offering career pathways into space awarded £450,000

Led by the University of Leicester, in partnership with Alden Legal and Meridian Space Command.

Fundamentals of Sustainable Space Engineering, Law and Operations is a flexible professional development course that offers up to seven weeks of accredited training for those seeking new careers in the space industry.

Space Systems ensuring Engineering Test Best Practice receives £450,000 from the UK Space Agency to tackle key skills gap

Led by Plastron Training Ltd, in partnership with the Space Skills Alliance, Lat51 Space Systems Ltd, European Astrotech Ltd, Plymouth & South Devon Freeport, and JMA Projects Ltd. 

The SiC4E Engineering Test Best Practice training programme introduces participants to core learning at key stages of their professional development to embed good practices and maintain safety standards.

Space Applications Learning Hub awarded £350,000

Led by the Royal Institute of Navigation, in partnership with Space Professionals Partnership, Geospatial Ventures Ltd, and the Space Skills Alliance. 

This accessible, interactive learning hub will deliver on-line courses led by experts in systems engineering, data/AI/ML and commercial operations across positioning, navigation and timing (PNT), Earth observation (EO/GIS) and satellite communications.

Advanced Microscopy and Thermal Control Upgrades to the SpaceLab Microgravity Research System: £560,000 

Led by Frontier Space Technologies, in partnership with Cranfield University as part of the National Space Innovation Programme.

Frontier Space Technologies Ltd and Cranfield University will develop their SpaceLab, capable of conducting experiments in micro-gravity environments. Specific upgrades will significantly enhance capability for drug discovery and in orbit manufacture of high value products. Applications include pharmaceuticals, bio-sciences and material science.

£800,000 awarded to equip the UK with capabilities for inspecting, protecting, and repairing vital assets beyond Earth.

Led by Lodestar Space in partnership with Momentus Space, Growbotics and University of Glasgow as part of the National Space Innovation Programme.  

Lodestar Space will develop a platform-agnostic modular robotic arm to perform contact dependent dynamic space operations. Intended for flight on Momentus Space’s Vigoride platform, the partnership also involves Growbotics and the University of Glasgow to equip the UK with sovereign capabilities for inspecting, protecting, and repairing vital assets beyond Earth.

Investment of £320,000 fuels Aurora Avionics’ ascent towards becoming a key player in the UK space sector.

Aurora Avionics secured the major backing from Gabriel Investment Syndicate and Scottish Enterprise, which is enabling it to ramp up its research and design, further expanding its five-strong team of engineering experts. They are also on track to have a on track to have a full prototype system ready for testing within a year.
